Database normalization in Power Pivot
Power Pivot Errors (Jquery and out of memory)
Hi,
I having some issues with PowerQuery and PowerPivot for Excel 2013. I make a odata connection to CRM online. And select 3 entities. Contact account and opportunity. The time it's takes to get all the data is a lot, but acceptable. The machine uses all the CPU and harddisk resource but the data is loaded.
The problems start when I select PowerPivot window and in the tab select manage data. The data is loaded on the screen. But when I click Diagramview Excel stops working and I get a KeyCode error.
I am using Excel 2013 32 bit. I got an i5 2.60 ghz with 16gb of memory. I think this should be enough.
What I would like to know what are the recommended systemsettings for the use of PowerQuery en PowerPivot. And is there a solution for my problems with the diagramview.

Dennis
Dates of Price Changes per Article
Hi,
I have a table with the following columns:
- Date
- ArticleID
- OriginalPrice
- NowPrice
- PriceReduction
I'd like to create calculated columns as follows:
- the date of last/first price reduction per ArticleID
- the date of lowest/highest NowPrice per ArticleID
- the number of price changes (i.e. different price reductions) per ArticleID
I could create calculated columns to calculate lowest/highest NowPrice per ArticleID. But I don't know how to solve the questions above.
I enclose a dropbox link to an example Excel 2013 file: PP_PriceChange.xlsx
Thank you for any advice!

Can Power Pivot do the outer join?
I need to do an outer join for two tables that are not fetched from database directly, but have already been done some operations by using the Power Query. Is there any possible that PowerPivot can realize this outer join?
Thanks!
Extract data/numbers from a column containing mixed data types
Hi,
I have a column which contains mixed data types - although in DAX it is set to text. An example would be:
Test
57
01/12/2014
78
Test 2
Is there of way of calculating all numerical values (numbers and dates) and extract them to a calculated column where the data type can be set to number?
Thanks,
James

Measure Grand total is wrong
Hi,
I found it is wrong for grand total of measure / calculated field? Here is my sample and data:
Here is the data:
TotalForecast:=CALCULATE(SUM([Qty]), Table1[Data Type]="Forecast")
TotalSales:=CALCULATE(SUM([Qty]), Table1[Data Type]="Sales")
Diff:=[TotalSales]-[TotalForecast]
ActualDemand:=if([Diff]<0,[TotalForecast],[TotalSales])
Is there something wrong for my expression?
Thanks

Linking PowerPivot model to a excel file located in SharePoint 365
I use Office 365 and OneDrive for business to store my files, however I use multiple computers and my OneDrive for Business file paths are not always the same, for example sometimes they are on the C:\ drive, sometimes they are on a H:\ etc.
My problem is that my PowerPivot model links to Excel files stored in OneDrive for Business to retrieve and refresh data. However each time I use a computer with a different path the files no longer refresh because they are looking in the wrong place. I'm wondering
if it is possible to point towards the actual URL of the file in SharePoint online so that regardless of PC being used they are always pointing at the same place.
I have tried doing this by editing the connection and navigating through the file explorer window to my correct OneDrive directory:
I can see the file I want to link to here but when I try and select it I get the following error:
"The filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect"
Is what I'm trying to do possible? Most of my data comes through MySQL statements but there is some data I can't get anywhere else.
Thanks,
James
using a filtered total
Hi,
I'm completely new to this powerpivot and got no programming background but i struggle. What I'm hoping to do is to measure forecast accuracy vs actual sales. As it's shown here the deviation is 5 or 1,28% but I would want the absolut deviation to be the sum of the rows (14+9) =23 and the deviation in % should be 23/391 =5,88%
To get the absolute deviation i've made a calculated field "Abs([actual]-[forecast])" and then the "% dev = [abs deviation] / [actual]
Thankful for any help and please dumb it down as much as you can for a complete rookie
sku sales forecast absolut deviation, abs dev /Sales
14102 | 374 | 388 | 14 | 3,74% |
14104 | 17 | 8 | 9 | 52,94% |
Grand Total | 391 | 396 | 5 | 1,28% |
Running total within a context
Loading a pivot model from an excel workbook we encountered the following problem.
The excel columns (simplified):
Date Team Hours
The sheet is loaded in a pivot table TeamHours and we want to calculate the running total of the Hours field.
So we do a calculation:
TeamHours[HoursRunningTotal]=
SUMX(FILTER(TeamHours; TeamHours[Date]<=EARLIER(TeamHours[Date]]);
TeamHours[Hours])
This works fine as long as the datasheet contains only one Team.
If the sheet contains two or more teams the values of all teams are summed. On a certain date for a specific team the values of all the previous dates are summarized disregarding the team context.
What we want to know is a runningtotal on hours in the context of the team.
To solve this problem now we calculate the running total at the moment the sheet is loaded in the pivot, but is this the best way to do it? Can it be done using DAX?
We tried to add the Team-field to the Filter but that didn’t work.
How to create chart based on date
Hi,
I need to create one chart for showing list of task due dates. For this I need to bind date value in y axis and task name in x axis. So that I can show the line chart. but in excel power pivot the value field only accept the number value (Sum, Count). But I don't want any of this function I need to simply bind by date in y and task x. How can I do?

Hi All,
I have deployed PowerPivot workbooks on SharePoint- 2013. When I try to clear all the Slicers, it gives following error as
The Data Model is also deployed on SharePoint & its quiet large in Size. The reports are pointing to this Model using Power Pivot Linked Data approach.
This error is not observed when workbook in opened as "Open In Excel". but on SharePoint it is giving above error.
May be it is because of Connection TimeOut of Session on SharePoint?
Please help us understand why is this error populating? any suggestion where we can set Data Load or connection related configuration on SharePoint.
FIRSTDATE depending on different column
Hi there,
I was trying all day to solve an issue but I can't get my head around it. I am trying to evaluate two different marketing campaigns from two different years. Therefore I want to check which campaign generated how much revenue in the first 7, 30, 90 and 180 days. I have a flat transaction table that contains amongst others the column "campaign" and "transaction date".
My aim is now to look for the lowest date depending on the campaign (i.e. start date of the campaign). Subsequently I would add the different time intervals to the transaction date of each transaction and use an IF function to write a string (for example "Revenue 7") into a calculated column so that I can use it as a dimension in the pivot table to show the respective revenue.
I would be really thankful if somebody has an answer to this as it drives me nuts... I must admit that I am pretty new to power pivot. I have some basic understanding of SQL but that didn't help so far.
Thanks,
Stefan
Number of columns in PowerPivot
I have a database in Navision i want to see in PowerPivot. i know the database contains more than 70 columns - around 100.
When i start a connection to the SQL database via powerpivot, it only shows me 70 columns to chose from.
Can i somehow change the "settings" or the database so i can see the column to the very right, which i need :)
I use Navision 2009 and Excel 2010.
Sequencing records by Date
Hey guys, I have a DAX question i was hoping you could help me with. I've loaded a bunch of phone calls into power pivot and I want to do some different analysis on them based on the number of times and the order in which they where called. I also want to look at things like at which sequence number do I get the best results, where in the sequence do things really start to fall off, etc.
How can i got about using DAX to assign a sequence number to the phone numbers based on the date/time that they were called?
In T-Sql I would use OVER and PARTITION BY the phone number ordering by the date. I am trying to do this in DAX on fly as a calculated column but can't seem to figure it out. The end result should be a list of phone numbers with a sequence 1, 2, 3 for each time the phone was called, in the order that it was called.
Function for calculating Percentiles
Hello, is there a DAX function that i can use in PowerPivot to calculate percentiles / quartiles for entire table?

Problems updating a linked table
Hi,
I am running a win 7 with Excel 2013, 64 bit, Swedish version. I try to update a linked table in the data modell and get an error message saying:
Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC

The file is saved as .xlsx so there shouldn't be a compatibility problem. I have also tried removing the added rows to make sure the added data didn't contain any bad data and running the file on a different computer but the problem keeps showing up.
Anyone having any ideas on how to solve this?

PowerPivot duplicate rows
Hi all
I am new to PowerPivot and data models, and I am querying an SSAS cube in a PowerPivot data model. I have a problem with duplicate names inflating figures. The duplicates come from a Project Server SSAS cube.
Row | Project Name | Cost |
1 | 1004 - Parent Project | £500 |
2 | 1004 - Sub Project | £200 |
3 | 1004 - Sub Project with same name as Parent Project | £300 |
Rows 2 and 3 are both sub projects that make up the whole project that is totalled up in row 1. However, when looking a the results in PowerPivot, the model is adding all these three rows separately, producing a total figure of £1000.
How can I get the model to a)recognise the hierarchy from Project Server. it does if querying the cube directly in excel into a pivot chart but not in a PowerPivot model.
Is there a DAX or MDX calculation I can use to only select or count the highest figure of any duplicates rows with the same name?
I understand it's a pretty complex question but hoping someone can help.
Thanks in advance.
Harry
