How to group data at granularity level hours and every 10 minutes?

I have sales table imported from SQL server. The date columns are are captured at granularity level such as 30-12-2013 16:50:16. 

what is best way create master date table, and create relationship between the sales table and the master date table?

I am new in Power Pivot, and any complete detailed steps and links will be appreciated

I have a data model looking like this:

(there are more columns but it is not necessary to show all)

What I want to do is to add calculated column with lookuplinks. I do not need link to a given article but one link for each flyer which could be represented by any of article's links. So my data model should look like this:

powerpivot add-in disapearing

Dear All

My issue is disappearing powerpivot ad-in every time I open excel file

I found several solutions but non of them works:

1) Check whether the add-in is disabled, you can find that from file->options-->addins-->Manage Disabled Items and click Go. If you find PowerPivot for Excel is disabled enable it

2) Check whether the add-in is unloaded, you can find that from file-->options>addins->Manage COM addins and click Go. If PowerPivot for Excel is unchecked, check it again.

3) Make sure your Excel Version is compatible with PowerPivot.

4) If you still have problem, try the below steps which should give you error

1) Open My Computer Properties
2) Click on Advanced Tab
3) Click on the Environmental Variable
4) Click on New User Variable
5) Add VSTO_SUPPRESSDISPLAYALERTS with value 0 press OK
6) Repair PowerPivot For Excel from add/remove
program
7) Open Excel again, it will prompt an error message.

5) Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tool for office runtime (x64) install

6) Latest Powerpivot version Installed

My system details:

- Win 7 Professional 64bit

- Microsoft Excel 2010 32 bit

- Powerpivot version: In Powerpivot settings there is 11.0.3000.1 but I am sure I download and Install the latest

11.0.3129.0

Previously mentioned point 2) is a temporary solution. PowerPivot add-in opens but after the file closed it disappear and this action need to be repeated every time when a file is opening.

The problem appeared probably after I change regional settings:

START ->Control Panel -> Clock, Language, and Region -> Region and Language -> Formats -> Additional settings - >Numbers

I thought there could be also compatibility issue between 64 Win 7 and 32 bit excel, but before this regional setting was changed poverpivot had been working well.

I have also Powerquery installed and it working well, but Powerpivot doesn't.

What can cause those issue?

My company recently changed servers and I cannot change the connection string settings in Excel 2013 > Data>Connections.  All boxes are greyed out and I get the message "some properties cannot be changed because this connection was modified using the powerpivot add-in". I can change the setting in > Existing Connections in Powerpivot however, I still cannot refresh.

I have read about other users that have had this issue.  Are there ways around this as I don't want to re-create my data model as it will be labor intensive.  I have tried switch the connection with VBA that I found on the internet however, had no success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

using LOOKUPVALUE--need urgent help please

Hello,

what im trying to do is grab the first date when someone bought a product. I have 2 tables. 1 where my products are registered with product ID and the other table shows when the item was bought. What im trying to do is show in the first table only the date where item was first bought. Im using lookupvalue and gives me an error because I have repeated itemsID  in the dates list.

How could I only grab the first date??

Dear all,

I have a simple table with the following columns: sku, brand, product_category, volume_Actual,volume_Budget, Sales_actual, Sales_budget.

So far I calculate price variance with a standard formula in a calculated field( ([unit actual sales price]-[unit budget sales price])*volume_actual  ) in a regular pivot table. This analysis is usually made at brand level, and the price variance is calculated at brand level is correct.

The problem appears at the grand total level, because the pivot table first adds all the figures (from all the brands) and then makes the calculation of price variance.

Is it possible to have the grand total just as a sum of the price variances (calculated field) of each brand (sum the values from the rows), instead of calculating the price variance formula over the entire data?

What value does USERNAME() DAX function return in Power BI

I need to use the USERNAME() function in Power Pivot. I want to know what value would it return when I upload the excel file to sharepoint. Unfortunately there is no way to see this value.

(I wonder why I cannot execute this function in Row Context. It would make all the sense to execute this query in row context and use it in some calculated column.)

I have a teradata source from where i need to import the data.

I have written a query for the same, and trying to import around 80 columns and approximatelye 650000 records.

It runs till the end for around 40-45 mins, and then throws and error - "Data Model Connection could not be created: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A03EC

Can anyone please help here.


Getting the first member of a cube dimension

Hi,

I need to get the first (and the unique) member of a cube dimension, but using CUBEMEMBER function seems be a wrong manner.

Obviously, I don't know which is the first member.

CUBEMEMBER("DataModel";"[ElaborationDates].[Dates]") returns ALL as also CUBEMEMBER("DataModel";"[ElaborationDates].[Dates].[All]").

Any suggests to me, please?

Incompletely qualified members in CUBEMEMBER formula ?

I have a simple date table with only one Year , year-half(HY1,HY2), Quarters (Q1-Q4) and Month (Jan-Dec). To my big surprise, the following CUBEMEMER formulas all produce the same OK Result:

=CUBEMEMBER("ThisWorkbookDataModel","Q2")

=CUBEMEMBER("ThisWorkbookDataModel","[DateTable].&[Q2]")

=CUBEMEMBER("ThisWorkbookDataModel","[DateTable].[Quarter].&[Q2]")

and the same with months:

=CUBEMEMBER("ThisWorkbookDataModel","[DateTable].&[Jan]")

No need to specify the column or even the table ?!! I guess there are circumstances where using this 'trick' is risky, but i my case i need to take the user-selected period from a cell (say A1) that contains either a month, quarter or year-half string, so I am quite happy to use the following simple formula: =CUBEMEMBER("ThisWorkbookDataModel","[DateTable].&["&A1&"]")

Looking forward to expert's comments. 


Allowing contextual drill throughs between pivot tables (based on PowerPivots)

Here is the use case.

You have a powerpivot with product purchases by customer by month by product category.

You want one pivot table that shows Customer totals (with slicers of product)

You want another pivot table with Products by Customer by Month

So ...

  • an end user is in the Customer Totals tab
  • sees a customer they want more information on
  • clicks on the customerid and is taken to a pre-sliced/filtered version of Customer by Product by Month pivot

I have similar applications set up today but the end user needs to toggle to the Customer by Product by Month pivot and then look through a long list of customerIds to find the one they want.  Not a great experience for end user.

Is it possible to have click throughs that provide context between pivots?

Upgrading from 32bit to 64bit version of PowerPivot

Hi,

I just changed the Microsoft office package to 64bit version from the 32bit in order to better handle big data. I also changed the Power Pivot to the 64bit version. The problem I am having is that I can not see all the tabs that were in the 32bit version. The Advance tab is missing and some of other features that are in the 32bit version. Does anyone here have a solution for this or has experienced similar problems with the 64bit version?

Can anyone provide me with some suggestions as to how to accomplish the following in Power Pivot?

I have the following Pivot Table fields. I'm trying to create a data model to allow me to filter all of the projects by the selected Fiscal Year. The Fiscal Year table is a dimension I created to group the data by.

I'm considering separating Projects into multiple tables such that 1 table is for Year1 information, another table is for Year2 information (includes Year2FiscalYear, Year2BudgetCAP, etc.).

I think what I need to do is create a measure to allow me to filter the records by fiscal year. Anyone have any ideas?

Complex accuracy Calculation in Powerpivot

Hello all,

Thank you very much if you take the time to look at this – I appreciate it is not a simple issue. I am attempting to use Powerpivot to calculate the accuracy of my forecasts. The table is called FRCReport and historically I have used an excel calculation to compare my actual demand to my forecast. I absolute the variances to stay out of negatives. The calculation is excel is:

 (IFERROR(IF(1-ABS((TOTDEMANDQTY-REVISEDFRC)/TOTDEMANDQTY)<0,0,(1-ABS((TOTDEMANDQTY-REVISEDFRC)/TOTDEMANDQTY))),"0.00"))

No matter what I try and read in forums and books I cannot seem to get this calculation to work in DAX language, can anyone help? Below is a sample of my data:

Secondly, and this is the truly complex part….The MAPE value is an accuracy %, I would average these %s up to get an overall MAPE figure – I would not sum up my demand figure and my revised forecast figure to get an overall MAPE, these calcualtions would be weighted though. Grade A would contribute 50% of the overall %, Grade B products 30% and Grade C 20%. In excel I would use an averageif fuction to achieve this in a separate table, I would like to be able to see this in the grand total at the bottom without having a separate table. Also, is it possible in a table with hierarchies to use this weighting – for example can I see the individual MAPE of all products but if I collapse it down to Family level would I be able to see the overall MAPE of each family based just on these weightings?

There is a lot to take in here and Im not sure anyone can assist but I would most appreciate it.

Showing detailed data in a pivot table

Hi,

I'm creating a PowerPivot data model having some tables with additional data than measures and fields to use in a slicer/filter. F.e. the address of a customer is a detailed data that isn't a measure or a slicer/filter data but to show to the end user. A such data isn't in a pivot format. In order to show this detailed data I've thought to use the Show Detail feature after the selection of a row in the (power)pivot table. But does it exist another more simple manner to display detailed data to the end user?

Hi

My PowerPivot workbook, is generating new tables on each refresh.

When opened up the workbook I find a dozen tables named, "Query1", "Query2", "Query3" etc.

It's pulling data from SQL Server.

Please assist.

How to get a date from existing records as a calculted column

Hi All,

I have data as shown below inside my cube.

 

 Blue colour columns are actual columns of the database and Gray colour column is what I need to achieve.

My requirement is like this:

Need to group on No (e.g. 1/2014), then check for OutCome='AAA'.

If OutCome='AAA', group on Type (e.g. XYZ) and get the date from the next row as a Next Date (e.g. 7/8/2014).

Is it possible to achieve using DAX function?
